2019 UPDATE ON NORTHERN RIVERS RAIL TRAIL

CASINO TO ELTHAM UPDATE

CASINO TO ELTHAM UPDATE

The first rough draft of the business case from Business Sense has been received, plus the economic analysis and will be reviewed by the Steering Committee.

THE HANNAH CABINET FOR LISMORE

The Northern Rivers Rail Trail will benefit enormously from having this wonderful cabinet in the Lismore Gallery. It will be a great attraction for people visiting Lismore. They need to raise $1million to keep it there. Please help if you can.

TWEED SECTION –  UPDATE

Thomas George has spoken positively about the Tweed project. He has had a meeting with the Chief of Staff for Minister for Lands and it has been decided the trail will be governed by Crown Land. This has resolved the issue of governance which has prevented things moving forward.
He also indicated the Deed of Agreement should be with Tweed this week.

The project team have finalised the review of EOI’S and have selected 4 companies to recommend to Council to ask for formal tenders (probably late February.)

They are finalising the heritage work, have been given approval for some works and are seeking grant funding for some works.

All other project activities are on track!

Cycling definitely a growing industry!

This is Alice who along with her partner, has decided go car free. She can shop and carry her little one on this great electric bike by Glow Worm Bicycles.

We will continue to attend the Lismore Car Boot Market the 1st and 4th Sunday of the month as well as some appearances at the Murwillumbah Farmers Market. Come along and ask questions or bring us a coffee!

MEET THE CANDIDATES

A terrific gathering at Macadamia Castle (thanks to Tony Gilding and the Sourdough Group) – to meet the Ballina Candidates.

  • Tamara Smith (Greens) – supports the idea of the rail trail but would like another transport study done and wants to keep the infrastructure in place until such time as that happens.
  • Asren Pugh (Labor) – Fully supports a stand alone rail trail – “the train is not coming back!”
  • Ben Franklin (Nationals) – Is 100 percent in support of the rail trail.
We are very lucky to have such great candidates in the Ballina region.

If everyone can make a small donation to help keep our organisation running, it would be a great help. Thank-you.
