TWEED POWERING AHEAD

UPDATE ON THE TWEED SECTION OF THE NORTHERN RIVERS RAIL TRAIL

By all accounts the Tweed Section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail is looking fantastic!

Thanks to the Burringbar Community for inviting Tweed Shire Council project manager Iain Lonsdale to speak at their meeting on Monday evening 19 September 2022. So far:

* 19kms of sleepers and rails have been removed. The rest will remain as heritage.
* Council is looking at heritage material as well as accessibility for people with a disability.
* The trail will be sealed through Burringbar and compacted gravel will be used out of town.
* Dunbible Bridge has almost been completed.
* Expected date of completion for the trail is the end of January 2023.
* There will be an underpass at Tweed Valley Way to provide access to Crabbes Creek.
* The surface will be a blend of material creating a smooth, compact and hard surface.
* A vegetation restoration plan will be put in place, managed through parks and recreation.
* At this stage no horses will be allowed unfortunately. After more consultation there may be scope to have some form of bridle path beside the trail.
* Trail (Motor) Bikes will not be allowed on the trail. There will be signage to that effect.

UPDATE ON THE RICHMOND VALLEY SECTION

Richmond Valley is also moving forward, with the rails almost removed and the detailed design of the first section completed. Construction will begin soon.

There is good news for horse lovers as a bridle path is very likely for around 80 percent of this section.

UPDATE ON THE LISMORE SECTION

There has been a new project manager appointed.
Our engineers are engaging with Lismore City Council and providing existing reports and data.
Pre-construction work is underway and consultation with adjoining land holders.

UPDATE ON THE BYRON SECTION

Our engineers have met with council staff and provided reports and data for the Byron Section
The Ballina link to Bangalow has been discussed with council staff
Council approved a proposal to investigate using the corridor between Mullumbimby and Crabbes Creek and Bangalow to Binna Burra – for a rail trail.

Cycle Links a great idea!

Please see below the link to Byron Shire Council’s website regarding proposed cycle links in Byron Shire. There are two route options, one of which uses part of the rail corridor. It would be good to provide some input regarding the benefits of using the rail corridor (including the safety of an off-road path, quieter, more pleasant).

So, if you have a spare few minutes, please get onto the survey and help Byron make the right decision! Submissions close on 8th October.

At nearly 75 years old, Lani is proof that it is never too late to start riding again. This Lady had traveled the world barefoot. No wonder she is looking so young and is so fit.
She is enjoying her Specialized Roll Sport and cannot wait to ride on the NRRT. We celebrate Lani as our first ‘New Bike Sale’ from our Mooball Outlet, which is not even officially open yet but happy to take bike repairs in and help out where we can…
